Today we’re switching it up! Instead of a Real Wedding, we’re featuring the work of Ian Riley Photography in a recent Style Shoot! This Nautical Style Shoot was captured on medium format and 35mm film and depicts the true story of a soon-to-be-married couple. Enjoy!
“Although Katie and James met and fell in love in land-locked Nashville, Tennessee, they both grew up around water. Katie, in the bay area of Wisconsin, and James in a small town in coastal South Carolina. They both fondly remember summers spent on the water and share a love for boating, especially Katie sailing with her dad. It only seemed fitting for their elopement to include a beach and some waves.
On an early August morning, the bride and groom met on the dock at Harbor Island Yacht Club in Old Hickory, Tennessee. James stood waiting in an ivory dinner jacket with slate blue pants, a matching bow tie and suspenders. He spun around to see Katie in a stunning, illusion neckline gown and two-layered Chantilly lace veil.
After their first look, they boarded a white and blue, 27’ Pearson sailboat taking them to a small island for the ceremony. On a rocky outcropping, the couple recited vows with one of their close friends as the officiant. Following the “I dos”, they shared an intimate brunch under the trees with a few friends. From ivory linens draped over a rustic farm table, to blue crystal place settings atop mother-of-pearl shell chargers, the table bridged the inland charm of Nashville and colors and shapes of the sea. A small vial of Atlantic coast sand and shells gathered during a recent beach road trip sat near the center.
Following their mini reception James and Katie continued sailing on Old Hickory Lake. As the sun climbed higher they toasted champagne and enjoyed the wind and waves. A fitting end to this nautical couple’s wedding day.” ~ Ian Riley
