Here’s what you’ll need:
- Wood plank or panel big enough to display your new last name and allow your guests to sign around the art. Stain or paint it before you create the art if you like, but don’t seal it yet.
- Nails
- Hammer
- Print out of your new last name in a font you love. Look for a thick, blocky font. They work well for this. Find free fonts on Pinterest, Dafont, or 10001 Free Fonts. Learn how to install fonts here.
- Yarn, bakers twine, or even jute garden rope as the ‘string’ part of the art
- Tape

Have your wedding guest sign the piece at your wedding or reception and encourage them to even add well wishes using a Sharpie or Paint Pen. After the wedding use a spray sealer to protect your guest’s name or wish. *Note that most spray sealers are oil based which means that they will yellow over time, if your string is white or you want to preserve the exact color you choose consider using a water based sealer. Many bloggers swear by Varathane’s Water Based Crystal Clear formula to keep the yellowing at bay.
We’re loving string art as a wedding detail. Don’t stop at they guest book. Why not create your table numbers in the same way? You can later use them as a house number or some other home decor item.
