Today’s vendor spotlight focuses on a very talented (and stylish) family… The Streets – owners and managers of Street Tuxedo, a formal menswear shop. We got our questions answered by Rachael Street Howell. I hope you enjoy getting to know this sweet family and their incredible business as much as I have!
1. What made you get started in the wedding industry?
My father, Mark, bought a men’s store in Madison TN called Kornman’s in 1984. They also rented tuxedos. He grew to love the tuxedo business, sold off all of the other merchandise, changed the name to Street’s Formal Shoppe (later to become Street Tuxedo) and the rest is history. So my brother John and I, we grew up in it, and we both loved it. So we are carrying on the family business.
2. What do you like most about working weddings?
I love the excitement of the event. Everyone is in such high spirits and love is in the air. Its pure joy.
3. What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you while working a wedding?
I had a groomsman’s shoe break as they were seating the guests. I high tailed it back to my store, grabbed another pair and returned in time for him to swap shoes. I’ve learned to carry extra shoes with me when working weddings 🙂
4. What’s the best advice you can give to a bride?
Hire a day of planner (at least). Relax and enjoy your day. And most importantly– while at your reception take time, with your groom, to step back and take it all in. You aren’t going to remember a lot about the day until you get your video/photos so soak it up.
5. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not busy with work?
Spending time with my family. I have 4 nieces and 1 nephew, and they are awesome!
6. What’s your favorite food, animal, and color? Why?!
Food: Mexican–why not?
Animal: Dogs, namely my puppies Hank and Cash. Dogs are so loyal and cuddly 🙂
Color: Green, just always liked green-all shades
