I’m sure many of you have seen these beautiful hangers with a wire Mrs. {insert last name} or even a wedding date all over wedding blogs, but did you know they’re pretty easy to make?

Now this will take some practice so I suggest you buy much more wire than you need. These make great photo props and even adorable bridesmaid gifts.
Here’s what you need:
- 14 gauge galvanized wire available at any home improvement store. (100 ft for under $5)
- Wire cutters
- Needle nose pliers (cover the metal noses with masking tape to prevent marking up your wire)
- Wooden hangers (without the pant bar on the bottom)
- Drill with drill bit about the size of your wire
- Gorilla glue or some other super strong glue
- Pen and paper
Here’s how it’s done:
- Measure out your wire for the size of the name. Typically allow 10 to 12 inches of wire per letter plus a little more so you can attach it to your hanger.
- Write out the name how you would like it on the hanger using your pen and paper. You can get some ideas on Etsy of how the letters are made.
- Slowly start to shape your wire using your hands and the needle nose pliers if needed using your written name as a guide. If you get a kink in your wire, put it in the recycle bin and start again, unless this is your practice piece of course. It’s really hard to get kinks out.
- Once you have your name formed drill two holes in the hanger but don’t go all the way thru. You may want to just go in a 1/2 inch or so.
- Put a little glue in the hole and a little on your wire. Insert the wire into the holes and allow to dry.
Tada! You’ve got yourself a fancy hanger!
Now if you don’t have the time or patience head on over to Etsy and you’ll find plenty of shops who will make you a custom hanger. The Noce shop on Etsy has a beautiful selection for just $25.
